The fourth national conference of the Japan Association for the Study of Cooperation in Education (JASCE) was successfully held at Tokoha Gakuen University in Shizuoka on August 4th and 5th, 2007.
More than seventy participants gathered from all over Japan, and we invited Dr. George Jacobs, executive director of IASCE, from Singapore for the Keynote Speech " Learning New Languages with Cooperative Learning".
On the 1st day there was an English Session for the first time in JASCE's history. Ms. Izumi Tanaka and Mr. Peter Timmins from Tachibana Elementary School presented their research and video on " The keys to learning English through Cooperative learning".
There were other research presentations, forums and a general meeting on the 1st day and we enjoyed the dinner party in the evening at the University Cafeteria.
In the morning of the 2nd day was a forum on PBL(Project-Based Learning). In the afternoon there were two workshops, one was in Japanese, given by Dr. Kazuhiko Sekita, and the other in English, by Dr. Jacobs.
JASCE and IASCE(the International Association for the Study of Cooperation in Education) will have a joint International Conference in Nagoya in 2008, and this 4th National Conference, about 1/3 of which was done in English, turned out to be a good rehearsal for the International Conference.
