ABOUT Nagoya and SIGHTSEEING INFORMATION

Friday, June 6, 2008

School visits plus sightseeing around the city of Inuyama is scheduled on Friday June 6th. The fare for this bus tour is included in the registration fee. It takes about one hour to travel from Nagoya to Inuyama. The bus leaves the hotels by 9:00 am, and comes back by 6:00 pm.
Inuyama city school district is the only public school district which is not participating in the Japan’s Nationwide Achievement Test movement. In Inuyama, they believe that the test would not help them build cooperation between students, parents, and teachers, but would instead accelerate competition. Inuyama schools are a showcase of Japanese cooperative learning. You are invited to lunch at one of the schools we visit.

Locations include:

  • Inuyama public school(s)
  • Inuyama Castle (Japanese national treasure)
  • Jo-An (A traditional tea house, Japanese national treasure)

Before or after the conference, you may want to spend some time exploring Japan. Nagoya itself includes famous historical and cultural spots such as Nagoya Castle, Atsuta Shrine, and Tokugawa Art Museum. Further information will be found at the Nagoya Convention & Visitors Bureau website
(http://www.ncvb.or.jp/index_e.html ).

Nagoya is the forth largest city in Japan with a population of over 2 million and is well known to business people as the base of the Toyota Motor Company.

Nagoya's excellent facilities, fascinating cultural heritage and many tourist attractions contribute to its success as a leading destination for both business and pleasure. Visitors will also enjoy the advantage of its strategic location. Within two hours train ride, they can reach Tokyo (Japan’s modern capital), Kyoto and Nara (Japan’s ancient capitals), as well as the foot of Mt. Fuji. In both Tokyo and Kyoto, there are bus tours in English and, in some cases, in Chinese. You can learn more at these URLs:
